January 31, 2007

Hi everyone, and Happy New Year! I’m delighted to be able to kick off 2007 with a sneak preview of the book that will be hitting the stores on March 6 – NINETEEN MINUTES - which addresses the aftermath of a school shooting in a small town. Now, I’m including a video trailer that gives you a summary of the book – but watch it at your own discretion. After all, if you get as excited as I am about this book, you STILL have to wait a full month before you can read it… :)

I’m not the only one looking forward to Nineteen Minutes, either. The very first review, from Publisher’s Weekly, was a starred one: “Bestseller Picoult takes on another contemporary hot-button issue in her brilliantly told new thriller…the author’s insights into her characters’ deep-seated emotions brings this ripped-from-the-headlines read chillingly alive.”

NEWS

For those of you who like to take me on walks via iPod, there are five new podcasts coming your way. Check out the first one, You Oughtta Be In Pictures – it’s an author’s view of what happens when Hollywood gets its hands on your novel.

FAVES

Why should Oprah corner the market on Favorite Things? I get asked all the time about books I’m reading and music I like, so why not plug the things I love? What I’m reading: I’m thrilled to report that I’ve read two books that are terrific – one hitting the stores next month, THE DOUBLE BIND, by Chris Bohjalian; and one arriving later this fall, THE RIVER QUEEN, by Mary Morris. THE DOUBLE BIND is a psychological thriller that will keep you guessing till the end, and that – in a way I’ve never seen before in a book – takes you inside the mind of an author as he creates characters. THE RIVER QUEEN is a memoir, as a woman comes to terms with her father’s death and what their relationship was.

What I’m listening to: John Mayer’s CONTINUUM, and the High School Musical Soundtrack. My middle son was just cast in a local production of the show. Wildcats…in the house!!

What I’m looking at: We’ve become patrons of a wonderful artist named Doug Henry, because he’s so talented that we can’t seem to stop buying his art. Go to www.henryfineart.com and check out the gallery – he’ll do a painting of your home, if you like. You can see the one that’s hanging on MY wall if you scroll through to the “House Commissions” page – my home is the one on the bottom :)
